In honour of Lenore Bateman (1945-2017), an extraordinary educator and life member of the Kodály Music Education Institute of Australia, the Queensland Branch offer a scholarship in her name. Lenore was a member of KMEIA from its very beginning, and she served both the State Branch and the National Body for decades, and in many capacities. Lenore’s tireless volunteering and commitment to Kodály Music Education inspired many during her life and through this scholarship her legacy lives on.

Kodály Queensland is honoured to offer the Lenore Bateman Scholarship ($1000) to assist in covering the costs of attending the Kodály National Conference – Adelaide, 28 September to 1 October 2026.

Scholarship Conditions 

  • Preference may be given to applicants who have not previously received a scholarship through Kodály Australia or any of its branches/chapters.
  • Preference may be given to regional members of Kodály Queensland Branch.

Selection Criteria

Selection Criteria – 100-300 words

Selection is based on the applicant providing demonstrated evidence of the following essential criteria.
Each application will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  1. Applicant’s involvement with Kodály Australia events.
  2. Applicant as a potential model for others.
  3. Applicant’s demonstrated ability and willingness to promote the goals and philosophy of Kodály Australia.
  4. Applicant’s evidence of recently attended workshops and courses with Kodály emphasis and commitment to continued professional development as a music educator.

In addition to the above criteria, please address in your own words:

  1. How will this scholarship allow you to pursue best practice, implementing the skills and knowledge gained?
  2. Why do you believe you are the best candidate to receive this scholarship? Provide details outlining your reasons for nomination in relation to the above-mentioned selection criteria.

Applicants for this scholarship must:

  • be a full member of the Queensland Branch for the past 12 months.
  • attended some previous courses/workshops with a Kodály emphasis.
  • have demonstrated the ability and willingness to promote the goals and philosophies of Kodály Australia.
  • submit a short reflection with insights they have gained from the conference for the Kodály Qld Newsletter. The reflection is to be emailed no later than 12 October 2026.
  • register for National Conference individually and provide evidence of registration (can be after scholarship is awarded but before payment is made).

Complete this application form and along with a response to the selection criteria (up to 300 words). Scholarships are awarded based on selection criteria and eligibility.
