Michael holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Queensland, with dual specialisations in piano performance and musicology, and an MA in Kodály pedagogy from the Kodály Institute in Hungary, where he also served as teaching assistant, lecturing in musicianship and conducting the institute choir. He completed a PhD on Prokofiev’s music in 2018. 

Currently a teacher at the Sydney Conservatorium High School and a lecturer for Kodály Summer Music School programs, he has also taught at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and works extensively as a choral conductor, including roles with the Sydney University Music Society Choir and Conservatorium High School. His work reflects a strong commitment to inclusive music education, with teaching experience across Australia, Japan, South Africa, and Malaysia, spanning school to adult learners.
